Youth Substance Use: What Parents Need to Know
When: Thursday February 28, 7 pm (Mock Teen Bedroom will be open beginning at 6:30 pm)
Where: LHS, Commons 2
Co-sponsored by: LHS PTO, Clarke PTO, and Diamond PTA
Parents of 6-12 graders are invited to this important session led by LPD School Resource Officer Kristina Hankins and Lexington Public Schools Prevention Specialist Kristie Demirev, LICSW. Parents will have the opportunity to hear about current trends in youth substance use (including vaping, marijuana, and alcohol); review recent data; understand the science behind the developing brain and the impact of substances; and learn strategies for talking with their children. LHS students will also be in attendance to facilitate Q&A with parents. This will be an interactive session, and all are welcome. The "Hidden in Plain Sight" display of a mock teen bedroom will also be set up starting at 6:30pm for parents to walk through to help them understand common household items that could be an indication of substance use by their teen.
Volunteer Opportunity: Temporary Cover for the Weekly Announcements
Would you be interested in helping to compile and send out the Weekly Newsletter using My School Anywhere (MSA)? We need someone to cover two editions: March 1 and March 8 (the 2 weeks after February vacation). If you have some previous experience of MSA or if you'd like to be trained up on how to use the system, please get in touch. It takes about an hour each week and there are detailed instructions on how to do it. This is a great way to become involved with the PTO and learn more about the LHS community. We will be recruiting to permanently fill this position starting in August, so if you are the parent of a 9th or 10th grader, please reach out. Please contact Miranda Clarke at email@example.com. Thank you!

2019 Spring Sports Student-Athlete/Parent Pre-Season Meeting
When: Tuesday February 26, 6 pm
Where: LHS Auditorium
LHS Spring Sports season begins - Monday, March 18, 2019. This meeting is required for all LHS student-athletes interested in participating in an interscholastic spring sport at Lexington High School. All interested student-athletes should attend the pre-season meeting with a parent or guardian. At the large group session in the auditorium, the requirements for high school athletic participation (on-line forms, user fees, physicals, eligibility), will be discussed.
Immediately following the large group session, we will break down into sport specific meetings so that student-athletes and parents can meet with the coaching staff of their respective sports. In the sport specific meetings, our coaches will introduce their staff, talk about practice and game schedules for the season, expectations for tryouts, as well as other key elements of the season. This is a fantastic opportunity for student-athletes and parents to hear from our head coaches about their expectations for the upcoming season.
