Something to share with LHS Parents and Students?

If you have information to share with the LHS community, you may submit it to the Weekly Announcements.

Please follow these guidelines for submissions.  Anyone can submit information to be posted in the Weekly Announcements.  However, if a request to post comes from someone outside the PTO, LHS or LPS, the decision to include the information is based on the following factors:

  • The information needs to be pertinent and connected to LHS (such as community service for students)

  • The information needs to be pertinent and connected to the Town of Lexington

  • We do not accept posts that promote businesses or classes that cost money, and are not organized by local not-for-profits or the Town

The only information in the Weekly Announcements that is supplied by the PTO is presented in the PTONews & Event section.  All other information has been submitted to the Weekly Announcements Manager for posting, including any information from LHS.

Seeking volunteers for the LHS Career Speaker Series

We are currently seeking willing speakers for the following dates:

  • February 7 (Thursday) 12:40-1:35 pm

  • March 14 (Thursday)  12:40-1:35 pm

  • April 11 (Thursday)  12:40-1:35 pm

  • May 9 (Thursday)  12:40-1:35 pm

The purpose of the Career Speaker Series is to expose students at Lexington High School to the various factors involved in career exploration. The goal is to have students understand that career exploration is a multi-faceted approach that is lifelong and ever-changing.
Our speaker series will expose students to jobs and careers that are available to them as they navigate the path toward their future. It will also help students to steer their course request process at the high school and college levels, as well as support their postsecondary pursuits. The emphasis will be on the path taken toward obtaining a career, as well as the experiences along the way.
Our Career Speaker Series runs during I-block, a time of day in students' schedules when they can choose where they wish to spend their time. Students across grades 9-12 can opt to come hear from our speakers. We typically have 1-3 speakers during any given presentation. Last year we saw a turnout of about 10-25 students on average. The setting will be in our Library Media Classroom.
Thank you!
Career Speaker Series Team (Steph, Matt, Tim, Lauren and Chrissy)
Any interested presenter should email Steph at smichael@lexingtonma.org

Parent Volunteer Opportunity: LHS Green Team

Tired of Global Warming talks and ready for some action?  Look no further - you can make a real difference right at the LHS cafeteria! Starting from November 16, we will recycle and compost at lunchtime on Fridays.  When students sort their trash, 80%+ of the waste will be diverted from the incinerator and landfill. It would be a huge impact, because:

  • Trash incineration pollutes air and the incinerator is only 30 miles from us in North Andover,

  • Food wastes should go back to the farm to nourish the soil, and they do not burn well,

  • The bottom ash after the incineration will soon have no place to go as Massachusetts is running out of space for landfills.

LHS Green Team is recruiting parent volunteers to support and guide students to recycle and compost at lunchtime. Please visit our website and sign up to help! It will take a village for the program to succeed, and we know we can count on your support!

Simplify the Season

  • When: Thursday, December 6, 6:30-8:30 pm

  • Where: Cary Library

  • Co-sponsored by: Lexington Global Warming Action Coalition (GWAC), Lexington Public Schools Green Teams, Cary Memorial Library

Are you looking for less stress, less stuff, more fun and more meaning this holiday season? This evening of conviviality will be filled with ways to rejuvenate yourself and your loved ones, while opting out of the commercial hype. We’ll kick off with The Story of Stuff, a video that offers a vision for change and explains how our obsession with goods is impacting our planet, communities and health. Enjoy treats while exploring ideas for greening your gatherings, including alternative and homemade gifts, and tips for reducing food waste.

In addition we will be collecting gently used kitchen items to donate to Household Goods in Acton. Household Goods (https://householdgoods.org/about/) provides items, free of charge, to help people in need make a home. They are in urgent need of basic kitchens essentials: pot holders, can openers, measuring cups and spoons, cooking spoons, spatulas, peelers, etc.
Bring your friends and neighbors to this fun event and please feel free your ideas on how to green the holiday season.
