College Admissions - Testing: A Roadmap for the SAT, ACT, and Other Tests
When: January 15, 2019, 9-11 am
Where: LHS - IDLC/Science Lecture Hall
Presenter: Drew Heilpern, PhD, Summit Educational Group, Inc
All Parents welcome! - Recommended for Sophomore Parents/Guardians.
In this seminar, we will:
explain the role of standardized tests in the college admissions process
discuss the differences between the SAT and ACT to help students and families better understand these tests’ design
examine sample problems from the two tests to highlight the differences between them so that students can make a more informed decision when deciding between the SAT and ACT
With the redesigned SAT and an increasing number of students taking the ACT, families have many questions about the current state of standardized testing. The goals of this presentation are to take away some of the anxiety that surrounds these tests and to give families information to help guide them through their own unique testing plans: Which test. When to take them. How and when to prepare for them.
LHS Career Speaker Series
On behalf of the LHS Counseling Department, we would like to thank all of those who have reached out and volunteered to be a part of our Career Speaker Series. While all of the speaking roles are filled for this year, we will be seeking additional speakers for next school year as well and would love to keep those who have reached out in mind for future opportunities. LHS students and staff are so lucky to have the support of our parent population and greater community.

Life After LHS: Forum on Returning College Students, Their Experiences and Advice to Current LHS Parents and Students
When: Thursday, January 3, 7-9 pm
Where: IDLC/ Science Lecture Hall
High school is considered a gateway to the future. Come and hear how these LHS graduates have seized new opportunities in college and how LHS helped them to be prepared for these different paths. Our panel will consist of former LHS students attending different types of colleges, playing sports, joining music groups and taking gap years. We would like to encourage parents and guardians to bring their students to this event. Though this forum is perfect for juniors and seniors, all are welcome. Please bring your questions along for the panelists.
For any questions about the event please email: email@example.com.

Food Donation Solicitations – Coordinate donations from our generous Lexington businesses who donate year in and year out
We look forward to hearing from you! The 2019 ANGP will be here before we know it! (June 2, 2019). To find out more, please contact Betsy Wilkinson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parent Volunteer Opportunity: LHS Green Team
Tired of Global Warming talks and ready for some action? Look no further - you can make a real difference right at the LHS cafeteria! Starting from November 16, we will recycle and compost at lunchtime on Fridays. When students sort their trash, 80%+ of the waste will be diverted from the incinerator and landfill. It would be a huge impact, because:
Trash incineration pollutes air and the incinerator is only 30 miles from us in North Andover,
Food wastes should go back to the farm to nourish the soil, and they do not burn well,
The bottom ash after the incineration will soon have no place to go as Massachusetts is running out of space for landfills.
LHS Green Team is recruiting parent volunteers to support and guide students to recycle and compost at lunchtime. Please visit our website and sign up to help! It will take a village for the program to succeed, and we know we can count on your support!
