LHS PTO NEWS & EVENTS

Welcome to the LHS PTO Weekly Announcements

All families of LHS students who have registered to be included in the LHS family directory hosted by the My School Anywhere platform are subscribed to the LHS PTO listserv.

What is the Listserv?
The listserv is the email distribution list the PTO uses to communicate important information to LHS families. It is managed and sent out weekly by a PARENT VOLUNTEER.

What information appears via the Listserv?
Over the last few years, the PTO Board members and parent volunteers have worked hard to try to come up with an organized way to present the information contained in the announcements.  The announcements are now divided into the following sections:

• IMPORTANT DATES FOR PARENTS OF LHS STUDENTS
• LHS PTO NEWS & EVENTS
• LHS NEWS & EVENTS
• COMMUNITY NEWS & EVENTS
• LEXINGTON COMMUNITY EDUCATION

How does the Listserv Manager collect information for the listserv?
Anyone can submit information to be posted on the listserv. However, if a request to post comes from someone outside the PTO, LHS or LPS, the decision to include the information is based on two factors:
• The information needs to be pertinent and connected to LHS (such as community service for students)
• The Information needs to be pertinent and connected to the Town of Lexington

The LHS PTO Weekly Announcements do not accept posts that promote businesses or classes that cost money not organized by local not-for-profits or the Town.

The only information on the listserv that is supplied by the PTO is presented in the PTO News & Event section. All other information has been submitted to the Listserv Manager for posting. That includes any information from LHS.

The listserv is only a small "picture" of what is going on at LHS.  We encourage everyone to go to the LHS website for complete information:https://lps.lexingtonma.org/Page/9

Do YOU want to submit a post to the LHS PTO Weekly Announcements?
If you have information to share with the LHS community, you may submit it to the Listserv Manager: announcements@lhspto.org or LHS PTO Communications VP:communicationvp@lhspto.org

The Weekly Announcements are usually published on Friday morning. To allow time for review and formatting, we request that we receive submissions byWednesday evening

* Note: The email address associated with the Listserv Manager in former years, lhslistserv @ gmail.com, is being phased out in Fall 2017. Please use announcements @ lhspto.org instead.

Writing the essay(s) can actually be fun, and simple--and we will discuss Do’s and Don’ts. You will learn tips to finally get started and complete your essay. Each student will get a few minutes one-on-one at the end of class. Class size limited to eight.

This cost of the workshop is $33.00. The workshop will be held at Lexington High School. Two workshops are available and content is the same in both.

Or:
Wednesday, October 18th from 7:00-9:00pm

Pre-registration required. To register, using a VISA or MasterCard, please contact Lexington Community Education at 781 862 8043

Health Care in the Trump Administration with Deborah Stone
Tuesday, September 12, 7:00-8:30pm
Lexington Depot
Cost:  $10.00

“Will repeal, replace & save healthcare for ALL Americans,” Trump vowed in his many Tweets and speeches. He promised "great health care at a fraction of the cost". Now that the Republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act has failed, what can we expect in the way of reforms?  In order to understand how that political process is likely to play out, we need to look at the evolution of health insurance in the U.S.  After explaining this evolution, the lecture will explore how the Trump Administration might still be able to use incremental reforms to undo the great expansion of health insurance brought about by the ACA.  The talk will conclude with audience discussion of the future of America's health care system.

Deborah Stone is currently a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University and a specialist in health and social policy.

The Samaritan’s Dilemma: Should Government Help Your Neighbor? by Deborah Stone, Nation Books, 2008 will be available for purchase at this evening’s event.

Pre-registration strongly recommended. To register, using a VISA or MasterCard, please contact Lexington Community Education at 781 862 8043.
